Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tool for beginners I purchased this kit 2 weeks ago.  The DVD instruction is helpful.  I've been doing yoga daily since my purchase.  Wonderful tool for people beginning and not able to attend a class regularly. May 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 Nice, comprehensive beginner's kit This kit is great- it has all you need to hit the ground running as a beginner yogi! And the turquoise color is pretty too! The only think I don't like is that the buckle on the strap is metal (some are plastic) and so when the metal hits the ground or another object it is louder and harder than if the buckle were plastic. Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this beginner's kit! I've been wanting to get back into yoga ever since I took a class at school. I figured that I'd get a beginner's kit, since I thought I may be a little bit rusty. I love every item in the kit - especially the mat (of course)! The DVD is also very helpful for beginners, even though I didn't really need the prop intro. Many of the reviewers complained about the daily yoga stretch being too fast, but I always make it a point to watch a workout DVD BEFORE I use it in a workout, so that I know what to expect. Anyway, love it love it love it! August 27, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Must for beginners I have absolutely no experience with yoga and on suggestion from a friend came to Gaiam. This kit has everything you need to begin your path to wellness. The block and strap are almost essential for a first timer, they helped me understand the stability of each pose. One of the Dvd's shows you how to use them and WHY. Important for some. Very helpful for first timers. Rodney Yee has a very calming and clear voice. His instruction is simple and concise. For those beginning or those unable to find good beginner classes near by, this is an excellent start kit. The price can NOT be beat. December 29, 2009
Rated 4 out of 5 by Medium quality starter kit for newbie yogis! Everything in the kit was decent quality.  Likes:  Rodney Yee is a good instructor with solid technique; his voice cues help you to focus on what you should be focusing on without being repetitive, intrusive, or annoying.  Cons:  the strap is a little low budget--cotton, though I like the metal buckle over plastic (greener choice).  The mat has that "new mat" smell, so you may want to purchase/use mat wash before your first session if you're sensitive.  I'd love to see a DVD with more than just one each of the AM, daily, PM workouts on it.  Give the newbies a full 5 days and intro to more poses, please! tender knee problem

Less than a year ago I had to have the Bursa removed from my right knee due to severe injury. It has left the knee very tender, I can put little to no weight on the joint at all. I just ordered a beginners set, any suggestions to keep from causing myself pain while doing the beginners movements?

Answer:
As with any yoga practice, the key is self awareness. While exercising always be mindful of your injuries. If something does not feel right or is causing pain, always back off or modify the pose. With the beginners kit, just take things slow. You may find that with continued practice you are able to do more and more! You may find it helpful to have extra padding available for your knee. This can either be with a folded blanket, towel, or simply folding your mat over.

We also recommend that you consult with your professional health care provider. Let them know you are starting a yoga practice and have them advise as to which poses to avoid.

I wanted to purchase an additional brick since the kit only comes with one.
Can you tell me which of the colors of the single Yoga Essentials Blocks  will match what comes in the kit?

Answer:
The yoga block is a teal green.  A shade lighter than the mat.  Matches the printed lines on the mat.

Answer:
Unfortunately we do not sell a brick in this color on it's own. The Yoga Essential Brick is the same dimensions but none of the colors are close to those of the props in the beginner kit. The Recycled Yoga Block we have is closer in color but different dimensions.

This mat is not made of the 6P free formula. These mats were made before we made the switch to 6P free.

Answer:
The length is normal length and the width of the mat is probably the smallest width out there but it is still very sticky and functional.

You mention above that item 05-53391 is the DVD included with this kit. Is it the same DVD as available separately? If not, what is the difference between the two DVDs? There seems to be a pose instruction on the standalone DVD not mentioned with the kit. What audio track options are available with the kit DVD? Thanks!

Answer:
The DVD's are different. The DVD included in the kit is going to have prop based programs. The other yoga for beginners DVD is mostly mat based and doesn't go in depth to show you how to use the props.
