Gaiam's Back Care Yoga DVD was designed to strengthen your back and help counter the ill effects of busy lives. It's difficult to be happy if you suffer from back pain. A strong, healthy back is essential to your well-being and vitality. For many, daily lifestyles don't offer much well-being. Sitting at a desk, driving to/from work, relaxing on the couch can weaken an otherwise healthy back and poor posture usually develops.

Through a series of stretches and postures, internationally acclaimed yoga instructor Rodney Yee teaches you to develop a stronger, healthier back. As you progress through the workout, you'll move from sitting to standing to floor exercises. Together, these exercises will help lengthen and loosen your spine for greater agility and flexibility. 58-minute workout with 16 minutes of bonus content. USA.

Back Care Yoga DVD Includes:
  • Stretches and hip-opening postures to warm up the body
  • Active workout to build "core" back and abdominal muscles
  • Guided relaxation to release tension and calm mind and body

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Back Pain Relief! I'm so glad I purchased this DVD. I suffer from a lot of lower back pain and this helps me a great deal. I not only use it as a regular workout but also when my back pain gets intolerable. Rodney's excellent cueing enables me to follow along quite easily. Using the support of a chair was new for me but it really helps a lot to move more easily. March 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by yoga i am just getting back into yoga, and have had some back problems. I LOVE this video. Rodney is easy to understand, and his voice is very soothing! August 20, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Gaiam needs to check its own DVDs Under a different account we ordered this DVD, and it didn't work. The screen is all large colorful squares, making vague shapes of Rodney Yee doing his yoga routine, but without enough detail to know what he is actually doing. We returned the DVD for another because the DVD clearly had problems. The second one they sent had the same problem, though it did not appear until about 2 minutes in. Gaiam needs to make sure its DVDs are in working condition before packaging and shipping them, in my opinion. Another problem with this DVD is in the program itself. This requires a chair, but in order for it to actually help (rather than hurt) the back, the chair must be of a certain height. If a person does not own a chair with a relative height, they can't perform 1/3 of the exercises. April 15, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Useless DVD for Back Care As I am suffering from Sciatic nerve pain, I expected this DVD to help me become a healthier me. The are too many props needed, to have at your disposal to use this DVD.The timing is fast and does take into account, those who must move slow due to back issues. This class would be better suited to a yoga studio. The DVD does not allow you to fast forward or rewind to specific poses as they are (linked )categorized by sections , not poses. This may be a good DVD for those who want to strengthen a healthy back, alas for me this was a misleading purchase. Rated 5 out of 5 by Bulged disk help I love Rodney Yees other workouts, so after I developed two bulged disks in my lower back, I picked up this dvd. It covers all the stretches my physical therapist assigned me, but has the calming effect typical of a great yoga session. Without the distraction of a classroom I can really listen to what my body is telling me and not overdo it. December 14, 2011

If not, is there another video in the line that would help with chronic back pain for an older woman?

Answer:
Yes. Give it a try and allow yourself a couple weeks to work up to your best. Do what you can everyday and you will see an improvement. Listen to your body and don't try to force your idea of the poses on your body. And don't underestimate the benefits of breathing into each pose.

Yes, you may navigate between sections though not poses. Therefore if certain poses work for you and others don't you cannot fast forward.
