Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Basic Yoga DVD This DVD is amazing in it's ability to reach beginner's and teach experts a ting or two about basic yoga poses. I am a yoga teacher and I consult this video for reminders on basics all the time. Patricia rocks! December 3, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Open mind I had expectations , which as we know , life is more fully and happily lived by going with the flow. I was expecting more of a class "like tone " and this is more basic and concentrates on correct posture .very slow and helpful guidance. I do wish I had a mirror close to my television to check my alignment. All and all a good DVD, and I will keep searching for my next perfect yoga DVD.... ps Gaiam, please , dont like adds for future DVDS and products on my DVD purchases...oh well. Peace! August 4, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome dvd for beginner! This is such an awesome dvd for those who would like to learn yoga for the first time. Ms. Walden explained it step by step patiently. Most importantly, she pointed out about what is the right posture for each position/stage. I'm satisfied with my first purchased at GAIAM! July 12, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 Good intro, but it is an intro Being active and starting Yoga with my wife we were looking for a DVD to get us started. Bought this one and Rodney's beginner DVD. This DVD is great to get started with the poses but if you practice Tie Chi or Martial Arts you will already know most of the stretches/movements. This tape only has one short workout and it is not difficult (for us, being active and all). This is a good DVD to practice the poses if you have no idea what you are doing or are not active and somewhat in shape. Rodney’s Beginner DVD has 2 good workouts as well as the pose guide (also included in this video). I would recommend both as there are a few poses in each that are not in the other. I would also recommend if you are like us getting an intermediate DVD to mix thing up. We thought there would be a little more meat to get us going thru a workout and glad we have options. Rated 5 out of 5 by Ohhh-I get it now. Thanks Patricia! As the review title implies, this DVD helped me to really understand the various positions of yoga for the first time. Patricia's patient explanations, loaded with details and visual images helped me understand what correct alignment-and the benefits of that-are for the first time. For example, her emphasis on engaging the proper parts of your body in the various poses is unparalleled. Great job! June 23, 2010

Hi, I recently purchased Rodney Yee's Yoga for Back Care.  I love the way he uses a chair to modify the moves.  As I'm an older beginner, this is essential for me.  I'm wondering if there are similar modifications in this Patricia Walden video: not necessarily the use of a chair, but at least a block and guidance in modification.
thanks so much,
Michael

Patricia's Yoga for beginners does offer many modifications! This would be a great addition to your collection. A towel, block, and chair are all used in this DVD to help you get the most of your practice at any level!

Since this Yoga DVD is supposed to help with flexibility and posture, do I have to perform warm up stretches before I do any of the poses on the DVD? Can I wake up in the morning and go right into the routine of poses?

I did not find that to be the case. This DVD has gentle guidance , that allowed me to follow and warm up as you go along. After a few poses I was already more flexible and focused.

Answer:
Not needed. This DVD is more of a textbook video of the poses. Good but it does not have a real long or hard workout (only 1). Rodney's Beginner DVD has almost the same things plus 2 good workouts that you will not have to pre stretch for.

Answer:
No because Yoga is a practice made of stretching it is not necessary to stretch prior to doing the DVD. The DVD will lead you through a proper warm up before moving into deeper stretching.

I'm assuming it's also used in the DVD version, though it doesn't say here. I've looked everywhere, but can't find either the tubular bolster used in this DVD or the rectangular one mentioned in one of the others.
