Sleep
Type Description
With the least back stress of all sleep positions, your pillow should allow for head and neck support leaving the spine to form a natural straight line. Your pillow should be thicker than a back-sleeper pillow and comfortable to cradle the neck and head as you slumber. A supportive pillow should meld into your personal shape remedying any painful pressure.
If you are a back sleeper, support for the part of the spine that protects your spinal cord is imperative. Your pillow should support your head, the upper part of your neck and shoulders and be slightly lower in height than a side-sleeper pillow. The perfect pillow will allow for the most comfortable and supported position critical for a restful night's sleep.
Avoiding neck strain for the stomach sleeper means using a flat pillow in order to gently align the spine and support the neck and head. Unlike the side- or back-sleeper positions, the stomach sleeper's head should be close to the bed and not turned forcefully one way or the other due to an overly fluffy pillow. The proper pillow will maintain its shape.
