Why Compost?

How to Make Compost

3 Ways to Slash Your Trash: Zero Waste Is Recycling 2
From the kitchen to your garden, discover the art of composting. At the heart of any eco-responsible garden is natural compost. And at the heart of that rich, earthy pile of matter is a variety of nutrient-packed ingredients a generous portion of which is generated in the kitchen. Coffee grounds, tea leaves, fruit rinds and vegetables can all benefit your garden soil when broken down, and reduce the amount of waste headed to the landfill. Gaiam's practical, easy-to-use composting aids keep compost-bound scraps tidy and odor-free until you're ready to carry them outside.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product Read the reviews for the ceramic version and decided to spend the extra money for the stainless steel. This is a fantastic product! I am very glad I purchased it and have enjoyed the ease of saving scraps for composting without the odor. July 9, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Most reliable compost bucket ever This handsome composting crock is an eye-catching edition to our kitchen--and it has stayed that way. Every other composting container we've ever tried ends up looking tired and unattractive. Not this one. And its capacity is amazing. Don't be put off by the relatively high pricetag--its solidity and beauty make its price just right. July 28, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Most useful product This product is very helpful in recycling food scraps that would otherwise end up as garbage. I do not have to worry about the smell and I find it very easy to clean the crock pot. I like the overall look of it and the fact that it is so portable, I even thought of bringing it along on a road trip. it was a big help! November 9, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it! I absolutely love this product! I have a family of 6 and it's big enough to last us 5-6 days without having to empty it. I am thinking I will use the compostable bags you can get for winter, since I have to hose this out each time. But otherwise - Awesome! August 3, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Can Looks nice and works great. Filled with food items for a week and you can't detect any odors. Seems a little over priced. It costs as much as my stainless steel blender which obviously is more high tech. March 29, 2010

I entered the recommended product number (09-9023) but what comes up appears to be filters for the white ceramic crock. Information for this crock states that the replacement filters are for only the white crock and not the stainless steel one. My question has been asked before, but the matter is still not clear.

The filters for the stainless steel crock are on backorder currently, which is why I believe they are missing from the website. The item number you need is 09-1082 and you can backorder it from customer service at (877) 989-6321, 7AM-7PM MST, M-F. The stainless steel crock is larger than the ceramic so the filters aren't interchangeable.

It's fabulously strong and durable--so much better than the plastic ones we'd been buying before this one became available.

Your staff's answer about buying filters for your stainless compost bucket was not helpful. It repeated the product #s but didn't say where or how to buy them. Do you sell them on your site? I can't find them. I wanted to add them to my order today.

Gaiam, I would truly appreciate it if you make/show a video/several detailed photographs on the three counter-top products, especially, the Bokashi, showing from begining to end of how composting works so that, I, the consumer, can see exactly what it "looks like." Not enough details are offered here. Ineed to see the process before I buy. Sorry.

Thank you for your feedback. Customers like you that take the time to ask and answer questions and review products make Gaiam a better company. The Stainless Steel Kitchen Compost Crock is actually not a composter. It is compost container where you can store your compost for up to a week before transferring the contents to your composter. The filter eliminates any odors. You can purchase replacement filters in quantities of 2 (09-0050) or 6 (09-9023). If you are looking for a kitchen composter, I recommend the 09-0206 All Food Recycling Compost Kit with Bokashi. If you have any further questions, please contact a product specialist at gaiamprodspec@gaiam.com or 1-877-989-6321. Thanks again for your feedback.
