I received our new organic sheets from Gaiam two weeks ago. I feel I can offer a couple thoughts after washing them for a third time and sleeping in them nightly. After a year enjoying the ‘nap’ of luxury enveloped in bamboo sheets these will take a little getting used to.
I’m hoping we’ll have plenty of time to do that. The bamboo sheets started shredding after one year of regular use!
Rest assured there are many things to like about these sheets, foremost among them is the fact that they’re organic. This trumps all else for me. Second, the color “Rattan” is stunning. It’s nothing like the individual photograph suggests: a bright buttercup yellow/gold. They’re more of a rich, golden bronze: much closer to the photograph of the pillow/sheet stack.
Insofar as the finish of the sheet is concerned, they definitely have more of a “percale” feeling than a high thread count sheet. I can overcome this though because they’re not bathed in chemicals and the cotton is grown sans insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. Also, they did soften up slightly after the second wash. The stiffer quality makes the sheets more prone to wrinkling, so you may not want to purchase these for a guest bedroom unless you are prepared to iron them, which I wouldn’t dream of doing!
The one thing that concerns me is that the specifications advertise that the fitted sheet is sized for a 17” mattress. Ours is 14” and it just fits. Any shrinkage and we are ‘sheet’ out-a-luck! Also, the top sheet is short for my taste. I pull the top sheet just over the top of the mattress (about 3”) and all that’s left to tuck at the bottom is about 3”. Again, any shrinkage and...well, you get the picture.
Lastly, I have a complaint about the extra “Sateen Pillowcases (2)” set that one one would assume would be a close match for the sheet set. At $50 for the set I expected better. The set is NOT the same size (longer), texture (not as smooth as the sheets), and worse – not the same color (more of a terra-cotta than golden bronze)! I understand dye lots but these pillow cases don’t appear to even have been made in the same factory. This disappointed me but it’s not like there’s an upside in returning them. Where else am I going to go to find something like this?
Bottom line: I won’t lose sleep over any of these minor issues; that is unless the sheets shrink and I can’t sleep on them!

Feels like very good cotton like I would buy at the better quilting stores, but it is not satiny. The king fitted sheet has elastic all the way around, and it fits over my 11-inch-thick Tempurpedic mattress, with 4" tucked under the mattress. So that would make it a 15" pocket. The fitted sheet is not as snug as the older sheet with a smaller pocket, but it stays put without bunching up. Because it is slightly loose, the wrinkles don't stretch out. That said, my husband did not even notice the change from the old, well-washed Gaiam sheets to the new. Be sure to shake it between washer and dryer to minimize the wrinkling. My last two Gaiam sheet sets wore well, so I am expecting good life from these.

These sheets are our new obsession. They are pricey, yes, but we love our first set so much I think I am just going to have to buy a second set here pretty soon. A word to those skeptic when you first get them - there is a tad bit of scratchiness until they've been washed a few times, but yes it does subside. We have the dusk color and it is so beautiful.

I just bought my second set of these sheets. I love the aubergine color I bought and I think the quality of the fabric is great. It feels great to sleep on and it dries quickly. The only thing I don't like is that they wrinkle if you dry them too much. I try to take them out of the dryer when they are just about dry and then I can smooth them out easily.

I have used these sheets for less than a year alternating them with another set of sheets. the sheets are laundered in a washing machine and hung on the line to air dry. After less than a year the bottom fitted sheet has begun to have tears right in the middle of the sheet. The first time I had all of the torn areas sewn. On the next wash there were more tears and extensions of the ones already there!!! This is the first time I have ever had a bed sheet start to fall apart on me! Something is definitely wrong with these sheets when used more than a year.
