Rated 5 out of 5 by Great results First time using this product I got dizzy. Didn't realize how my alignment was so "off!!" Now, I gain relaxation and better breathing and so much energy during the day by using this product. June 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for back pain When laying on the ground, it works great for back pain as long as it is positioned correctly under you back. See the pamphlet that comes with the Back Wave II for examples of how to position it beneath your back. It also works great to sit on either at the desk or dinner table. It makes you sit up straight which I love! March 22, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by RESTORATIVE I use this in the evenings usually after exercise. It is a great way to relax your spine.  Also use it while doing crunches.  March 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by strong and very well made Well built, sturdy, exercises provided are well explained.  It is important not to do too much at once, this mechanism feels like getting a chiropractic adjustment.  One of us has chronic neck issues the other chronic back.  It has helped us tremendously. I purchased this item several months ago and have hardly used it because it is extremely painful! Obviously I'm doing something wrong because the reviews are great! I place it on the floor and lie on it but if I don't place a pillow under my head, it is very painful. Thanks

Answer:
It works by supporting your lower back in it's natural position to help align the spine and release tense muscles. Everyone's comfort level is different, but if you continue to use it after a while you should feel relief. As far as the pillow goes you want to make sure your using one that isn't so thick that it places your head at an unnatural alignment. What I typically recommend for yoga students who find savasana uncomfortable for their neck and head might work for this. Take a towel or a blanket and roll it until it's about as thick as your fist. With the remaining unrolled portion fold it over a couple of times. Then take the roll and place it under your neck so you can use the folded portion as a cushion.
