Rated 1 out of 5 by Not very happy This pillow is very hard. I bought the medium. Maybe if there'd been a softer or smaller one, it'd be better. We don't find it comfortable at all. We bought one wool, one cotton and this one. We refer to all of them as hay bales. February 19, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice product Good product--worth the money. I have ordered a firm pillow and was not disappointed. February 18, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Flatter than pictured. Bought the Firm and a Medium. But disappointed at how flat (about 1.5 to 2 inches) the firm is. I was hoping to replace two pillows with one firm pillow - but it's not thick enough to be used alone. The medium is just as thick, but softer. Glad that there is a plant fibre alternative to down though. December 13, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by terrible smell when it arrived I bought this an another pillow. Both arrived quickly but both also had a terrible odor; as if they sat in a musty store room for years. I mean the smell was awful. I almost sent the pillows back, but my spouse put them in our dryer on the "steam" setting with some organic fabric sheets. After a few treatments, the pillows were 99% rid of the musty, barn smell. That is where the bad experience ended. The pillows themselves are great. I've been looking for a non-down pillow that was not too firm or to soft. I hate to sound like Goldilocks but this pillow has thus far worked out well. I just wonder, however, how the heck it could have picked-up the terrible smell. I want to order a couple more but I don't want to buy them from Gaiam since I am guessing the smell was picked-up in its warehouse. In sum, I don't recommend purchasing this item from Gaiam but I do recommend the pillow itself. November 24, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good quality for a couple years I've had this pillow for a couple years and have found "fluffing" the pillow no longer works. The filling has clumped and won't evenly distribute any more. You could argue a couple years is the normal lifetime of a pillow, so if that's the case, it worked well while I had it! Although I'll be trying the organic cotton or wool next time. June 3, 2011

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of ALL of the non-organic material used in the manufacturing and preserving of this product, and a contrast to the other pillows (cotton, down, wool) Gaiam offers, i.e. flame retardants, etc.

I started using my kapok firm pillow 5 days ago. It's pretty flattened now. Is this the type of thing that will loosen up with time? I'm not finding it very malleable, just dense from the get go and now flat. I was really excited to find something like down--but this has no spring back or malleability. Give it time or do I need a different pillow? Would the medium be fluffier?

(For the record, I didn't have any problems with the noisy cover or the smell.)

Answer:
The medium might be a little fluffier as the firm pillow is meant to be a bit more dense. Please keep in mind that these pillows can be sent back for a refund or exchange at any time.

I'm worried I received a "moldy"? pillow??? The smell is really strong and my husband made me remove it from the bed! I kept trying to tell myself that it is the natural fibers, but really it smells like mold and is pretty disgusting. I'm bummed because the pillow is quite comfortable. Please advise. Thanks!

Answer:
Mine did, but so too did not the Kapok pillow I bought from Gaiam. It was more of a musty smell. I don't think it was the nature of the fibers since I was able to remove the smell by steam cleaning the pillow.

I bought a firm Kapok pillow about a year ago and LOVE it. But, after reading the comments posted recently I was wondering if in fact it has been changed from the same one I got a year ago because I have not experienced the problems they were describing. Can you let me know if it is the same manufacturer and all or if they have changed the design of it since then or anything?
