The Kumbh Mela – the largest gathering in the world – takes place every 12 years alternately in four holy cities in India. Crowds ranging from 30 to 70 million people gather to bathe in the holy rivers as an act of faith and redemption. Filmed during the Maha (great) Kumbh Mela at Allahabad in 2001, the Kumbh Melas at Nasik in 2003 and at in Ujjain in 2004 and at the Ardh (half) Kumbh Mela in Haridwar in 2004, this film takes us inside the greatest pilgrimage on Earth and reveals the intricacies of what goes on in the daily lives of the people who gather to populate these magical, improvised cities. 78 minutes.
