Have had this ceramic compost for less than 60 days and the lid has a hairline crack! It never fit snugly and the carbon filter is slightly too big for the lid but it still works. We empty it about every 4 days and have not been aggressive in our use. We still use it and i love how cute it is in our kitchen but it is very disappointing and I wish we had gotten the steel one.

After back-ups from a fairly new & powerful disposal, we decided to try composing. We eat a lot of vegetables & fruits so just throwing peels, etc. out seemed wasteful. We get about two days worth of scraps in the crock. It looks okay on the kitchen counter; never any fruit flies so the filter work well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by callalily It's adorable!
Not a phrase you'd typically use about a compost bin, but it really is. Small enough to fit on the counter and large enough to only need emptying once a day, if that. Absolutely smell-free. I love it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by JaneAnonymous It certainly gets the job done
Let's be honest: my needs from an item intended to temporarily hold compost are not enormous. I want it to be sturdy and not overly stinky. Heck, I've used mixing bowls that just happened to be handy in a pinch. (Haven't we all?) This crock certainly meets my modest needs, and it looks (and smells!) significantly more attractive than an uncovered mixing bowl to boot.
My only gripe is that, being ceramic, it's as fragile as, well, ceramic. It wasn't out of the box a week before I managed to chip the lid. It wasn't out of the box two months before the lid was in two clean pieces on the kitchen floor. A bit of Gorilla Glue and some choice words later, and we were back up and running, albeit significantly deteriorated in the attractiveness department. At this price point, it would certainly be great if they offered replacement lids for when the inevitable happens - I can't afford to buy a whole new crock every time my hands get slippery while I'm cooking.
[Related review: Gorilla Glue is awesome. The lid has now survived in serviceable condition for about two years on nothing more than a single treatment of Gorilla Glue on the seam. So at least there's that...]

Rated 3 out of 5 by madrone disappointing
initially thrilled with how pretty the ceramic crock was but the inner lip made emptying it difficult and it could not withstand the men of the house vigorous attempts to empty it. Broke in less than 2 months
