Rated 5 out of 5 by I'm so glad we bought this! I love our Berkey! My advice to you is think about where on your counter you can keep it. We bought a small shelf to rest it on so we can have easier access to the pour spout at the bottom. Also, if you drink a lot of water and use filtered water for cooking and pets as well you may want to get a larger size. Our household is just two adults but we have to make sure we refill the canister often because it does filter a little slow. This size Berkey will take up to 4 filters but we only use 2 to save $$. Water is so pure and clean! You can also purchase a separate flouride filter which is available on other websites. This is a lot of money up front but over time it is so much more affordable per gallon because the filters last so long!  November 23, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Water The water has an amazing taste after being filtered. It took me back to a time when life was simpler. The water is so delicious that it encourages you to drink more water, which we all know is very good for our bodies, provided the water is clean. This filter works far better than any I have tried before. Easy setup and cleaning. Well worth the money. March 19, 2011

Hello, I purchased a filtration system from a Gaiam Outlet in West Chester Ohio, not online. The Unit worked amazingly well for a couple of weeks but then I noticed the water taste changed. A red food dye test showed that the black filter units somehow were no longer working. Where can I order replacements, or does the manufacturer offer a swap program for non working filter elements? Thanks !

I'm hoping to find a water filtration system that has absolutely no plastic in it. I realize that this might not be possible. If this does have plastic, can you tell me what parts (ie the tap) and an approximate percentage (ie very little, less than 5%). Thanks so much!

Answer:
The only plastic in this system is in the spigot and the spigot is made entirely of plastic.

Answer:
Yes, but you have to purchase a separate flouride filter that can be put into the Berkey. As far as I can tell the flouride filter is not for sale on this website but other sites  sell it.

Answer:
The way we sell the Berkey it will not filter out fluoride. However the vendor sells an additional filter (that you hook to the filters included) that will remove fluoride.

Answer:
It's made of a black ceramic. Berkey is the original North American distributor for British Berkefeld, a company who makes the finest ceramic water filter available. These ceramic filters are excellent at removing harmful bacteria from sediment heavy, contaminated drinking water. It soon became clear to Berkey that a more powerful filter was needed, one that not only removed bacteria but was also in addition able to remove chemicals, viruses, heavy metals fertilizers and a long list of additional contaminants from your drinking water. After many years of research Berkey developed the Black Ceramic Berkey purification element. This filter gives you all of the benefits of the white ceramic filters with the added abilities mentioned above. Black Ceramic Berkey purification element significantly raised the bar to a level that no other gravity flow water filters are currently able to attain.
