The mat has a very rough texture on the surface of both sides. I is also stiff and hard, I don't like the material it is made of. It is a 5mm mat but feels no different than my 3mm mat. Except that my 3mm is much more comfortable. I will continue to use my old mat, I loose $10 in shipping, not worth sending it back.

An excellent mat for my practice. I practice 3-4 times a week. I also accompany it with a mat towel and I have no problems with grip. I do not practice vigorously/aggressively, so this may be why grip is okay for me. Regularly spray the mat after each practice with water and some melaleuca/lavender oil to help smells and bacteria. I would recommend this mat to others.

I have RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) and this mat is great because of 5MM Cushion which is so much easier on my joints. It is also very nice looking. Made extremely well.

I've attempted to make the most of this mat considering I practice with it 4x's a week. Is there a "break in" period? I figured after 4 months it was going to finally start gripping. It slides and stretches during dolphin and down dog. I bought the mat with an environmental purpose in mind. At least it can be recycled (the only positive part of this). Gaiam makes an awesome product, but this not being one of them.

If I had better read the label, I probably would have been less inclined towards purchasing this mat. But I was in a rush and thought the colors were pretty. This is a synthetic mat material, which I presume is better for the environment because we no longer tap rubber trees? I don't know. This mat smells like petrochemicals. This mat stretches both directions in down dog, which I've never experienced with a decent mat before.
