I purchased and enjoy this video, which constitutes a very good introduction to the basics of Ashtanga yoga. However, the purchaser (or recipient, if a gift) should have a pretty solid foundation of yoga knowledge before beginning. Some of the poses are a bit advanced, and modifications for the less flexible are not offered.

As someone familiar with the basics of yoga but lacking the time for a regular practice this DVD is wonderfully effective!! I feel as if I am actually able to keep up and get a solid workout, considering I do not have much time to develop my skills. I am a licensed personal trainer and have utilized many fitness modalities, but in only a matter of 2 weeks I feel a significant amount of change in my physique. Very happy with this DVD!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Yogalvr Love this DVD!!!!
I look forward to practicing this DVD daily! I haven't tried the Advanced part of it yet, but the beginners level leaves me feeling like a noodle and looking forward to practicing again. Nicki's voice is very monotone, which is very relaxing. Her instruction is clear and she goes at a pace that is comfortable for someone just learning this practice, but also for someone who has practiced longer. The scenery is beautiful and the background music is very calming. I would definitely recommend this DVD to my friends and family!!

I bought this DVD being fairly new to yoga. It does require some flexibility but overall is the pace is perfect for beginners. Also the instruction is clear and easy to understand.

by JunieBug Beginning Yoga for the Already Flexible
I purchased this DVD as a beginner to yoga. The instructor's directions are clear and helpful. The feature that allows you to receive more instruction with the poses is a great help for this beginner.
Nicki Doane uses a very monotone voice throughout the series of poses, which I find irritating instead of relaxing. Also, the sun salutation poses do require at least a moderate level of flexibility, which I do not yet have. Overall, I do like this DVD and will continue to use it several times a week. I do feel that the poses will get easier with more practice and patience!
